Plants are important to provide habitat, reduce excess nitrates and oxygenating the water.
We made this video to give tips on planting and maintenance.
An air pump is essential in an aquarium.
This video was made to explain the correct installation and also uses and benefits.
Bubbling air helps to stabilise Oxygen/Carbon Dioxide levels, boosts biological activity in a filter and aids in the release of pollutants from the tank.
Video showing how to make a simple moving bed filter for use in an aquarium.
Made with: Plastic bottle, silicone suckers, air pump, airline and K1 filter media.
We use these filters in discus, angel and dwarf cichlid tanks and ammonia & nitrite always read zero when we test the water.

An improved design for the aquarium moving bed filter.
By adding foam around the inlet, debris is caught so water is kept clean and healthy. Excellent for breeding tanks as fry can get food from exposed foam. Shrimps will also feed on food / algae trapped in the foam.

Very useful for malawi / tanganyikan cichlids, loaches and spiny catfish / plecs.
By using a bottle trap made from a plastic drinks bottle, you can catch fish without taking the decor out of the tank. Quickly catch small fish.
Leave baited in rocky tanks and check regularly.
If entrance of trap is dug into gravel / sand, fish will swim straight in and be trapped.
Video showing process of packing tropical fish for overnight delivery utilising a heat pack and oxygenating tablet to ensure that fish arrive in good condition.

Video showing the introduction of tropical fish received by overnight delivery and how to ensure that the transition to your tank is as manageable as possible for the fish.
This is a very important process as if a fish is going to suffer stress leading to death, lack of proper acclimitisation is normally the trigger for any subsequent problems.

Video showing the benefits and drawbacks of using either gravel or sand as the substrate in an aquarium. We would always recommend sand for a tropical aquarium unless it has an undergravel filter as most aquarium gravels will buffer the pH above 7 which won't be suitable for many South American species e.g. Tetras, Discus, Angelfish, Loaches etc. and other 'soft water' fish.
